Map

Sprint orienteering map (2016), updated 2017. Map is made by Arvo Paulin. Scale 1:4000. Contour interval 2,5 m. Printed 5/2017. Size A4. Maps are in plastic covers. Model map can be seen at start for classes H/D10-14. Competition map is given to competitor at the moment of his start time.

Maps are not collected away in the finish. According to the rules, competitors are not allowed to show their maps to other competitors or team officials before the last start time. It is also prohibited to show the route on an old map. Remember fair play!

Terrain

The competition area covers districts Perttilä and Mäntynummi. Terraced houses, blocks of flats and kindergartens are typical to the area. Most of the running surface is gravel, asphalt or grass.

The competition area is very flat. There will be only 20-30 m climb on the race. The biggest difference of height is 10 m. Normal running shoes are recommended. Dobb and spike shoes are not permitted.

The competition area is not closed to traffic. Organisers try to control the traffic so that it would not disturb competitors. However, please pay attention to other competitors and traffic also during your race.

Special features

In the competition area, there are a couple of special features marked with black x on map (symbol 540, prominent man-made feature), for example slides and swings for children. These are used as control points on controls 38, 119 and 129 (slide). (See pictures in the end of the Finnish instructions - Kilpailuohjeet)

Out-of-bounds

All the objects that are marked on map with impassable or out-of-bounds symbol are not allowed to be used as a route, crossed, passed under, gone through, or used in any other way. For example, all the objects marked with impassable symbol are out-of-bounds.

Out-of-bounds objects on a sprint map (See pictures in the end of the Finnish instructions - Kilpailuohjeet)

All the borders of such out-of-bounds areas and out-of-bound objects that are not of a man’s height, and that can affect relevant route choices, are marked in the terrain with red-yellow ribbon. These areas and objects are also observed by organisers. For example, when a street going to a house yard is marked as out-of-bounds, the ribbons can be placed very low or even on the ground for not preventing residents to use the street.
